Recently I had the pleasure of taking a trip up to North Jersey to try bagels from Teaneck Road Hot Bagels. This small bagel shop is located in Teaneck, New Jersey and is just around a half hour away from New York City. This bagel shop was also voted a top 50 best bagel in America by Food and Wine Magazine!
I found it extremely hard to believe that this was the only bagel shop in NJ that made Food and Wine’s list much like Jeremy Schneider who also wrote an article for NJ.com about Teaneck Road Hot Bagels accomplishment. His article was actually what gave me the idea to travel up north and see what this shop was all about. Let me say it did not disappoint in the slightest and I now understand why it is indeed a top 50 bagel in America. It was simply the best bagel I have ever tasted!
Teaneck Road Hot Bagels only serves its bagels with a spread or cream cheese, no breakfast sandwiches. But the store does not need to and the recipe to their success does not need to change. After walking through their simple and rustic entrance I entered what was a small and old school looking bagel shop that featured nice employees ready to help. The workers could have not been any nicer.
I ordered three items that were a plain bagel, an everything bagel and a plain bagel with cream cheese. All three items were excellent. The bagel is small but thick. The outside of the bagel is perfection and when you take that first bite you are greeted by soft and hot dough that almost melts in your mouth. The freshness and hotness of the bagel is what is most pleasing about these bagels. Not to mention the cream cheese was so smooth and light that is was almost like a whip of some sorts. The cream cheese was just as good as the bagel.
Food and Wine Magazine got it right when they named this a top 50 bagel in America and I encourage anyone and everyone to go try a bagel from Teaneck Road Hot Bagels.
